The Redemptorist Vocational School for the Disabled in Thailand
The Redemptorist Vocational School for the Disabled was founded in 1984 with only 4 students. Today the school has more than 220 students, young adults from Thailand. They learn jobs that enable them to live independently and contribute to society.
Known as "Mahathai", the school accepts students that do not have the posibility the attend another vocational school. The main portion of our students comes from meagre conditions. We do not ask money from them. Classes, food, accommodation, medical care and use of thew sports facilities are absolutely free. The same goes for the after hours, computer usage, dance-, music-, art-, chess- and english clubs.
All the school asks for is high willingness to learn. For most of it?s pupils it?s the last chance to receive job training of any kind. And a job is the only way to reach a state of independence in life.
An absolute phenomenon at the school ist hat 90% of it?s thai teachers are handicapped. To many new pupils they are the ultimate example of how a disabled person can lead a ?normal? life.
